FAQs
Where are the nearest shops?
The nearest shop is in Dunvegan which is a 15min drive. It is a small basic general store.
The nearest supermarket is the COOP in Portree. It is 35mins from the cottage. You pass it on your way out of Portree driving north.
There is also a similar sized COOP in Broadford (first town after crossing the bridge). It is 1hr from the cottage. We would recommend picking up what you need before coming to the cottage as you pass through Broadford or both Broadford and Portree on your way to the cottage depending on your route choice.
Do you allow dogs?
Yes, we allow up to two well behaved dogs. Please keep dogs out of bedrooms and off the furniture, and use the dog towel provided after a muddy walk! Please also pick up your dog’s mess from the garden.

Yes, we can provide a travel cot on request. Please bring your own bedding for this.
Do you have an open fire or wood burning stove?
Yes! New for Dec 2018, we have a multi fuel stove. We provide enough wood to get you going on arrival. More wood is available 15mins drive away in Dunvegan at the Store. We’d prefer you to burn wood rather than coal.
You say the cottage is suitable for 4 adults and 2 children, what does this mean?
Shorelands sleeps up to 6 people in 1 king size bed, 1 double bed and 1 bunk bed. We’re happy to have adults stay in the bunk room as long as they’re nimble!
Is the cottage accessible?
Shorelands is all on one floor. However, there are threshold steps and some uneven floors internally. There is a sloping gravel path from the car parking area to the doors. Please contact us if you would like more detailed information on accessibility.
How is the cottage heated?
We have oil-fired central heating. This is set on a timer and you can also turn it on and off whenever you like. Hot water is also set to a timer which ensures you have plenty of hot water at all times. The shower is electric and heats water as you use it.
Is there mains water and drainage?
Shorelands has mains water which you can drink from the tap. The drainage is to a septic tank, so please don’t put anything other than paper down the toilet.
Is smoking allowed?
No unfortunately our insurance does not permit smoking both inside or outside of the property.
